Contractor:  I do recommend hiring a licensed contractor to oversee your remodel if you will be replacing flooring, beams, paint, and fireplace materials.  A full home renovation requires coordination of multiple trades—plumber, electrician, flooring installer, cabinet installer, countertop fabricator, and more. A reputable contractor has trusted subcontractors, can manage the schedule, and will monitor quality at each step. Their experience (and fee, typically around 20%) is worth the peace of mind.

If your renovation is smaller with minimal trade professionals engaged, then you may feel comfortable enough to manage on your own, if you have time to do so.
